Four Ways to Get Creative With Picture Framing

Four Ways to Get Creative With Picture Framing

download (16)Over the years, it’s common to accumulate a large number of photographs, mementos, and prints to liven up the shelves, walls, and mantles of the house. However, with so many of these images lying around it can be difficult to know what to do with them all; picture framing can be expensive, but photographs and posters tend to look messy and cluttered when pinned to the wall with thumbtacks. Fortunately, there are endless possibilities when it comes to framing and displaying your keepsakes. Here are four tips to get you started.

1. Collage Your Clutter

Most people have boxes full of uniformly-sized family photos that they simply don’t know what to do with. Why not breathe some life into the memories of your loved ones by purchasing a larger style of frame and making a creative collage? Much like scrapbooking, photo collages are only limited by your imagination. Use ribbon, rubber stamps, decorative tape, or even glitter to tie your artwork together.

2. Time for Inspiration

By far one of the most eye-catching ways to exhibit your favorite photos, trinkets, and works of art is with a

The Transformative Power of Sacred Art-Making

The Transformative Power of Sacred Art-Making

download (15)When I began teaching Western women the sacred art of Tibetan appliqué in 2008, I thought I was just teaching stitching technique. My students quickly set me straight. It turns out I had seriously underestimated the power of tradition and transmission. Through teaching, I discovered the transformative effect of the sacred textile art I’d been making for 20 years.

I had lived in northern India for nine years and learned to make silk thangkas in apprenticeship to Tibetan master craftsmen.

A thangka is rollable wall hanging, a scroll, depicting a sacred image or spiritual teacher. Most thangkas are painted on canvas and framed in brocade, but I studied a rarer type of thangka in which the images are built from hundreds of pieces of silk, outlined in hand-wrapped horsehair, assembled in an intricate patchwork.

Six days a week for four years, I sat alongside young Tibetans in a sewing workshop just outside the Dalai Lama’s temple. The environment was infused with dharma. Sounds of teaching and practice echoed from every window and courtyard. I attended Buddhist philosophy classes in the morning with learned Tibetan scholars (geshe)

Kerberos, orbits 60,000-km planet Pluto; Pluto which has five moons, and in comparison in distance, Earth being 93-million miles from the sun, Pluto, is 4-billion miles from Earth. But Kerberos is where our story leads us. It is the most obscure of the five moons I do believe, all being nearby the Kuiper Belt. Kerberos’ largest lobe is but 8-km across and its smaller lobe being only 5-km across.

Because of its isolation from the other moons, and its small size, asteroids being larger, this dwarf moon has a weird inhabitants-and perhaps for good reason was selected over the other four moons, and not by accident. They harbor the Black Moon Widows (spiders as large and some larger than those old iron frying pans my mother used to use when I was just a lad of ten; you could cook a whole chick in that frying pan, it weighed six-pounds, no kidding).

The moon is so infested with them, they constantly are bumping heads, so the last report read coming from the spacecraft, Enceladus, named after Saturn’s moon

Gravity, the thing that keeps our solar system activated, our galaxy in motion. In essence, the universe’s black energy, black matter. Should a star collapse, we know it’s an act of gravity, to a certain extent, as then a black hole is ready to be created if not already created, to swallow that dead star, whole. Yes, the hand of providence has provided a waste basket, for its surplus. Put another way, gravity shapes space and time, has energy, creates a reaction, produces a black hole, if not a wormhole that may develop into a black hole, or a black hole acting like a wormhole.

This must be explained before we go on with the story lest we get fragmented along the way, and we lose sight of Silas Caine whom is the antagonist of the story.

We have talked of gravity, now wormholes, and

I am stirred for the most part by the here and now, what I’m accustomed to, even though I have come to realize the present and the future are well-appointed by God. Let me explain where what I am leading up to:

Through a ripple of time, a ripple in space and time, nearly 1500-years ago, our spacecraft landed on Earth. We traveled 15.5 billion km from Earth’s sun, in a matter of hours, not at its likely occurrence of several years. It was the year 488 A.D., when we came.

As I meditate and think back, the year now being 2015, the Picks from upper Scotland invaded Britain, as did in time the times of the Angles from Sweden and Denmark, and the Saxons from East Germany.

I live like mist, vapor in a kind of impregnable bright bubble, as thick as the old walls of Troy.

Waiting, I’m always waiting, it is all I know.

I see the cold stars of night and the glitter of the sun-

At times I see the blue planet called Earth, it is nearly as old as Pluto.

It is hard for me to explain who I am, when I really don’t know what I am, or how I came about.

I need comparisons!

And I know of none!

Thus, I cannot explain.

I am lonely and old, I know that.

Sometimes I feel like the thick ice on Pluto, numb.

The atmosphere drifts off the planet like someone smoking a Lucky Strike in an open bar, I got that information from listening to old radio waves-

I sense the cool silence of the long days here, as long as Earth’s week!

Perhaps today is the day I will no longer have to wait?

A question to myself.

I see a metallic object from a distance.

I hear metal clashing with debris.

I can hear and I can see.

And I hear voices from afar,

One of his biggest strengths I would say is intonation – the rise and fall in the pitch of his voice and his ability to probe questions and then later getting into the heart of the story.

Today, Mr. Rajdeep Sardesai is not only India’s Top Journalist but also an author of his recently released book titled, “2014 – The Election That Changed India”. In the recent past I had the opportunity to meet this prolific news anchor over a freewheeling chat.

download (10)As I sit in my studio looking around at all the suncatchers, wall hangings and other stained glass items, I’m thinking about the history of stained glass. How did they cut glass? I know they didn’t have copper foil way back when or a soldering iron. So how did they do it?

How did they cut it? Well after a little research I discovered that in Medieval times they used a red hot piece of iron that was drawn across the surface of the glass slowly in the generally desired shape. The glass was quickly put into water break it. The process was nothing short of amazing as the early glaziers followed a sketched cartoon for their window design. After using the red hot iron for cutting the glass to the required pieces, the pieces that had received painted lines and shadings were put into the kiln. The pieces were then fitted into the lead strips, then soldered together at junction points, then the installing of a bracing framework of iron called the armature. The coloring of glass was achieved in the melting pot, where

The How-To’s of Proper Mixing

images (1)Mold making and casting requires lot of care and caution every step of the way – right from measuring and mixing to pouring and curing. Every procedure has to be carried out carefully in order to achieve the desired results.

Take mixing for instance. Almost every mold making or casting material from plaster and alginate to polyurethane resin, urethane rubber and silicone rubber consist of two components that have to be mixed together prior to use. It could be mixing the powder or liquid with water, catalyst, curing agent or hardener. Whatever be the material, proper mixing is always essential. Else it can create a marbled effect and also affect the curing of the mold/cast.

Following are a few tips on the same:

Right container – You can use any kind of cups, bottles, cans or other containers made of plastic, metal or glass for mixing the materials. The container used should always have straight sides and bottom. Also ensure that there is no rim or threads on the inside as such.

Right equipment – You need a flat instrument for stirring and mixing the materials. Choose

But what I want to say first and foremost is we are reading events that have taken place in space and time by detecting gravitational waves, called warping of time, space produces cataclysm, and now we can read events that have taken place millions of years ago. And what appears to have recently taken place, perhaps has taken place three-million years to get to us, so it is all dead data. Again gentlemen and women, I shall get back to this sooner than later. What I’ve noticed recently is hot material by that Dark Planet, we call Exoplanet, with the one star. We cooked dinner, and while sipping the wine, with the New Year approaching and the old one ending in a few days, we examined the life and its mysterious ways. We traveled a long way to be here, in Chicago, at this particular moment, in this time of our lives. As our experience of live expands, we gain larger perspectives of the events of our life and the mysterious powers that govern it.

Here is one of the fascinating stories my brother told me. He studied art at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Wroclaw, Poland in the Nineties. On his 20th birthday, his friend gave him a book “Famous for 15 Minutes: My Years with Andy Warhol”. He absolutely loved it!

The book is “Set in the dervish years of the Sixties and Seventies, Famous For Fifteen Minutes is a confession memoir of Ultra Violet. The story recounts of Warhol, a shy, bald, myopic, gay albino from an ethnic Pittsburgh suburb and the “Girl in Andy’s Soup,” Isabelle Collin Dufresne, a.k.a. Ultra

How to Choose the Best Festivals for YOU

download (6)With 7.4 billion people in over 200 countries it’s no wonder there are more than 6 thousand unique celebrations around the world. But there’s only one lifetime! How can you choose which to attend? Let’s start with the basics. Categories overlap, especially since music, performing arts and dancing (as well as eating & drinking) play a major role in most events, but it’s possible to divide then into 7 groups: Music, Theatre, Cultural, Film, Book, Sports and Food. Now, let’s explore a few of them.

Culture

Many bizarre festivities fall under ‘culture’. For example: Kanamara Matsuri in Japan where a penis is the central theme of the event, and the Monkey Buffet in Thailand where Macaques (macaca monkeys) are served over 2,000 kg of fruity treats, and La Tomatina in Spain where 100 tons of tomatoes are heaved in a gigantic street brawl at the world’s largest food fight.

Sports

Sports festivals offer a few surprises too, like racing stubborn dromedaries Down Under at Camel Cup, and bottomless boat competitions in a water-free regatta on a dry riverbed at Henley-on-Todd in the Australian outback, and dirty mud

Thus, this undiscovered world was newly discovered again, but things were different this time. Perilously he stood up from his chair, figured this ongoing exploration of the Dark Planet had absorbed him night and day, and here it was at his disposal, as if God gave the Universe a mind of its own, and allowed it to share its mysteries, or on the other hand,

When first starting a collection, it can be pretty intimidating to go into a gallery or speak to a dealer when you don’t know what kind of art you like. With the proliferation of the use of the Internet, it’s easier and easier to purchase art online. Traditionally, gallery dealers and art agents would have control over the art world making art a very inaccessible to the masses. That has all changed with the Internet and some amazing online sites to purchase art. One of my favourite sites to research and buy art online is Artsy when you don’t have a gallery, art dealer or art agent or consultant to help you.

Artsy is a highly reputable site to find amazing artwork. It has over 300,000 artworks, architecture and design by close to 40,000 artists. Artsy has a wide range of artworks such as contemporary artwork all the way to the old masters. Artists include Damien Hirst, Gary Taxali,

Part I

It all starts with inspiration. Joseph Campbell in his book “An Open Life” talks about inspiration and how it happens: “… it’s not so much a search for understanding as it is sudden insight. You walk into the forest, you’re not in quest of something. Suddenly you are struck by the wonder of this place. A woodpecker flies past: this tells you something about the wonder of the whole world of the birds, of nature and so forth. And if you are a poet, you will attempt to render to quality of that experience insofar as it pushes right through to the ultimate mystery of being and life itself. That such a creature should be there! That the universe should be here! That’s something that excites you to wonder.”

… so we create passionately, intensely and continuously every time the ultimate mystery forces us to wonder… and after long laborious process of creation, we display the results of our effort in all its glory, deepening and passing inspiration onto others.

… but, as a part of creation, the destruction follows undeniably. Like

The type of fiber used to make the paper, the moulding or manufacturing process, whether made by machine or by hand, and screens used in finishing the process. Surface texture is referred to as “tooth”. Tooth is determined by the texture of the screens used in the process. Let’s review some terms and uses:

1. Acid-Free—made with a neutral PH giving it higher resistance to yellowing and becoming brittle over time.

2. Grammage—the weight of the measured in grams per square meter of paper (gsm). The higher the grammage the more it can endure coats of paint or amounts of water.

3. Pounds (lbs.)—the weight of the paper measured in 500 sheets (ream) of a particular size. For example, standard 22″x30″ ream of watercolor paper that weights 300 lbs. is a 300 lb. paper. Even if that paper is in larger than standard sheets and weighs much more, because a standard 22″x30″ ream weighs 300 lbs., it is still a 300 lb. paper.

My First Memory Was My Most Embarrassing Moment

That was a bit of my dark side seeping into the light. I will give you a hint pertaining to my first memory. It is one of the most embarrassing moments of my life. I have set the bar quite high for my embarrassment scale.

As a child I despised going to school. My parents would entice me with candy. They would use all the tricks they could think of to get me on my way to school. They once even made me believe I was going to Disney Land. I was sorely disappointed on that day.

My first memory begins on a hot summer day. Prior to going to school, I had a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach. I informed my parents, who in their ignorance mistook my premonition for another futile attempt at missing school.

I eventually reached my pre-kinder garden class. I was sitting on my wooden chair that seemed too big for me. I had an
